blockbusters

every summer i get sucked into the horrible blackness that is summer blockbusters and there's no escaping. it's not that i think these movies will be good...i just have the small hope that they'll be entertaining. and because i enjoy the act of going to the movies, i continue to go every week to see whatever is out there. this summer will be no exception but i'm hoping to relay my reviews to y'all to spare you the pain of sitting through some of these.

first up was mission impossible 3. sure, tom is a mess but i told myself that i'd give j.j. abrams a chance. i figured i owed him that much for a great first season of 'lost'. mi3 was about what i expected. granted, i haven't really like any of the mission impossibles and i just don't think i enjoy the story (or lack thereof). so it wasn't great. but i will say that each action sequence is pretty damn impressive. the entire two hours is just one sequence after another but there are some doozies. still not a great movie though.

this past weekend we caught poseidon. not. good. at. all. sorry to say but it was not enjoyable. i thought from the trailer that i'd at least be blown away by the huge boat sinking because that's kind of cool, ya know? but the acting was painful and the whole movie LOOKED like crap. poor poor cinematography. you will be happy to know that every person of color in the movie died a horrible death. i think that's alway nice, especially when directed by an old german man. the movie experience was made ever more horrific by the five 11 year olds sitting directly behind us who were talking the whole time. and by 'whole' i mean all 90 minutes. i don't even think they were talking about the movie...i literally think they were translating or tell a deaf person EVERY LINE IN THE MOVIE. it was the worst audience experience ever. john told them to shut up two times and they didn't. then we decided that they might be deaf or not speak english so in the middle of the movie he stood up, turned around and made it very clear to them that they should shut the fuck up. they did. for about five minutes.

the next two weeks will bring da vinci code and xmen 3 which i have way higher hopes for. i will let you know.
