address book
I was mailing a card this morning so I opened up my address book on my computer. Ever notice how an address book is a pretty amazing reminder of the past? It's a bit of history and I have a hard time deleting things for that reason. I scroll through three grandparents' names, addresses, and birthdays...grandparents who passed away years ago. There are college friends I never talk to, work friends I'll never work with again, ex-boyfriends, ex-neighbors, and ex-landlords. I've got a lot of female friends where I've typed in their new married names. Then a couple more friends who I've had to switch back to their maiden names after a divorce. I've added wedding anniversaries, baby names, and addresses of new houses in far away states. But I've kept the childhood San Diego addresses...just in case.
Yup, I would say a good half of my address book is full of people I will never talk to again. But it's comforting to know that they are there.
