Great Films Too Painful To Watch Twice
I was recently reading the Onion's AV Club and was inspired by this article about movies that, while amazing, are so painful and/or tortured, that you never want to see them again. Their list is probably good but because I am lame and only watch recent movies, I hadn't seen 90% of them. Lots of movies make me cry (The Notebook, Steel Magnolias, Beaches), but those don't count because I watch those often...and mainly on TBS. Anyways, I present to you...
TOP TEN GREAT FILMS TOO PAINFUL TO WATCH TWICE
10. BRAVEHEART - Sort of a weak choice because I find I can watch the first half but then have to turn it off before the whole drawn and quartering thing.
9. IN THE NAME OF THE FATHER - I remember loving this movie when I saw it, I've just never seen it again.
8. REQUIEM FOR A DREAM - Yowzah. The drug-induced orgy rape scene? Good times.
7. MYSTIC RIVER - The scene that stands out is when Sean Penn finds out that his daughter has been murdered and he unleashes this raw anguish. Really hard to watch.
6. AMERICAN HISTORY X - I've only seen it once but I remember that curb scene like it was yesterday.
5. DEAD MAN WALKING - Probably unfair to include this since I have, for some reason, seen it twice. But I remember being fascinated by the fact that I held it together for the first viewing and then sobbed uncontrollably the second time.
4. MILLION DOLLAR BABY - The end destroyed me. But, rightly so, since it was manipulative.
3. LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL - Okay, a little hokey but it still made me cry and I still don't want to see it again.
2. SCHINDLER'S LIST - An absolutely gorgeous film, maybe one of the best scores ever, amazing acting, and I've only seen it once.
1. DANCER IN THE DARK - Holy jesus. This takes the cake as the all time biggest sob fest. Some of you know that this was the first movie date for me and my husband. Hmm...interesting choice. At the end I believe I had snot coming out of my nose and my eyes were all puffy.
