xmas come early?

so i'm dying for a digital camera and i don't know if i should buy one or wait for christmas time and see if i can put it on my christmas list. (no, i don't really have a christmas list.) a digital camera would be so perfect though for those drunken karaoke nights. or drunken sushi evenings. or drunken bowling outings. (hmm...i detect a pattern). anyways, for those of you who are techno-geeks out there, what kind of digital camera would you recommend? any suggestions?
