work is time consuming

it's been quite a while since my last post and it seems like it's been a decade. i started a new job and it's been long long hours and hard as hell. working from 7:30 am to 9:00 pm doesn't leave much time for socializing. i basically get up early, go to work, come home, watch about an hour of tv and go to bed. exciting right? but still, those 13 hour work days go by surprisingly fast. there doesn't seem like there's enough hours in the day to get everything done. this job's a little different for me because i'm not an assistant anymore. which i am thrilled about. but, at the same time, i'm experiencing something i wasn't prepared for. when you're not an assistant, work is hard. you have to take responsibility for your actions which means you could fuck up. you have to be a boss to other people and teach these inexperienced kids. and sit them down and tell them when they've messed up. you have to be aggressive, outspoken, and decisive. and guess what? i'm not any of those things. i don't know if it's because i've never done it or because i just don't have it in me...but there it is. it's probably a bit of both. but it's a hell of a lot harder than i thought. i'm thinking that any minute i could get fired so i'll try to keep you posted.

june 25, 2005 - part 1

well, it's been over a month so i figured it's time for the post about my wedding. though, to be honest, it feels as if the moment has passed and now it's too late to blog about it. oh well...you'll just have to suffer through it. here's one of the billions of photos i have of the event and one of my favorites.
we are cute
we both don't love posing for pictures and we had never had so many pictures taken of ourselves. that being said, it wasn't too bad because, hey, when else in your life can you at least be confident that your hair, makeup, and dress looks as good as they're going to look? i took solace in that at least. though some of the poses that the photographers suggested didn't feel..um..."natural". check this one out:
definitely posed
yeah, not exactly a move we do in our living room every monday night. and yes, that's only how far i can bend back. i may live in LA but i don't subscribe to that yoga and pilates crap. hence the lack of flexibility. of course, what you don't see in those pictures (hopefully) is the fact that i was sick as a dog the night before. i never EVER thought i'd be one of those girls who stresses out and freaks out before her wedding. and i guess i wouldn't say i "freaked out" but the night before my wedding i got really sick. sure, part of it was that i was run down from the hectic week and getting no sleep every night. but as i was hugging the toilet around 1am the night before my wedding, all i could think was "oh god, i can not be THAT girl. i seriously can't be sick because of stress. no way." i never stress. not in high school, not applying to colleges, and certainly not before college finals. of course, i woke up the morning of my wedding feeling much better and ready for my big day. but i still can't believe that i was THAT girl. well, sort of.

but the wedding turned out wonderfully and we had an awesome time. it was all that we could have hoped for. all we really wanted was for everyone to have a great time and to be on the dance floor all night. and that's exactly what happened. i only wish that it could have lasted longer though i guess any amount of time would have flew by.

a wedding is really an interesting thing. as my dear husband put it, he really "felt the love all night." sounds cheesy but it's totally true. everyone in the twinkling tent was someone close to me that i loved and it was so nice to look around and see all of those familiar happy faces having a great time. while it may have been the open bar's heavy flow of alcohol, hugs were plentiful and there were lots of 'i love yous'. it's really too bad that a wedding is only a once in a lifetime event (for most) because never again will there be an excuse to get all of those people into a room again. pity. because everyone should get down with their grandparents, friends, and neighbors to "living on a prayer", "hot in here", "dancing queen", and "take on me" every year or so. it's good for your health.

all in all, it was event i'll never forget. the speeches were beautiful and moving, my new husband almost made me cry during the ceremony, the dance floor was packed all night, and it was great seeing all my friends and relatives in one room. of course, the best part of the night was the photobooth but those pictures will be coming soon so stay tuned.

july 16, 2005

a very special day. july 16. ginger rogers birthday...and, more importantly, corey feldman's birthday. the day "catcher in the rye" was published. the day apollo 11 was launched. all important events. but none as memorable as taryn and dan's wedding in san diego. it was a beautiful event. the ceremony was touching and heartfelt and the reception was a great time. i've got lots of pictures, but first, a few of my favorite memories from their wedding week...

- meeting all of the very cool mid-west people that i've heard about for years. shout outs to Tim, Matt, Jay, Sydney, Will, Andrea and all of the others. i only wish that that silly wedding hadn't gotten in the way of me chatting with you more.

- taking full advantage of the open bar at the rehearsal dinner and shocking sweet elaine with my antics.

- being ditched by dan (and matt) not once, but twice on friday night. ahh, the pq posse has never been treated so badly.

- arguing with great passion about movies at claim jumper and tgi friday's.

- watching helen get a little lost on her way to the bridesmaids' spots at the front of the church.

- stacy's, matt's, and mr. o's speeches at the reception. so perfect.

- hiro's d.j. announcements that had such feeling.

- poor poor dancing on the dance floor all night by myself, my new husband, and all of our many friends.

i had such a great time and now i feel like i really do have to go out to madison to visit taryn and dan. perhaps one day soon.... in the meantime, enjoy the pics.

The happy couple...can you see the glow over the internet?

This picture is here to merely highlight my "cheerleader" hair as many called it. The hair was a result of a very unfortunate hangover. I was left helpless and my mom curled and pulled and did god knows what. The result made me look like a 15 year old cheerleader but the bride should look a hell of a lot better than the bridesmaids anyways.

obligatory soft focus shot

summer 2005

this summer has been a busy one...and it's left me with no time to blog. which i find unacceptable. weddings, honeymoons, vacations, fun, and drinking have left me blogless and that has got to stop. but it's all almost over. i got married, went on a honeymoon, and was in speakmemory's wedding. all of these events deserve long blog entries with lots of pictures. Pictures of awful dancing, inappropriate facial expressions, best man speeches, tropical beaches, and fancy dresses. Plus descriptions of crazy PQ Posse members, drunken nights, and amazing Wisconsin (and Illinois) people that may or may not have blogs and who may or may not read this blog. and all of those pictures and descriptions will come in the future (i am currently very excited about all of my taryn and dan pictures and can't wait to blog about their wedding) but tomorrow i'm off to new york for my last vacation and hurrah of the summer. sex in the city with one of my close girlfriends (and bridesmaid). but, until then, here is a taste of what's to come.

obligatory soft focus shot
See? I really got married. I even got all dressed up and let people take pictures of me in soft focus. It was an unusual day.

the groom plus me
And there was a man there to play the groom's part. And he made a very very fine groom.

honeymoon
And then there was a honeymoon in the Cook Islands. It's next to Fiji and Tahiti. Very small. There's much prettier shots of trees and ocean and hammocks but I had to prove that we were there. Though this could be us in San Diego.

And here I am with Taryn the beautiful bride and her bridesmaids. There were FAR more embarassing and funny pictures but I figured I should start with a standard one.

bachelorette weekend #2

the pq posse was off to palm springs this weekend to celebrate my upcoming nuptials as well as taryn's. fun was had by all. we stayed in the hotel where trista and ryan got married which has really always been my dream. palm springs was pur-ty and we enjoyed sitting by the pool all weekend. palm springs was filled with a surprising number of middle age men who seem to hit on you by giving you their salsa. that and oddly leaning in on our table which the hope of getting invited over. i don't think so buddy.

palm springs

there was a bit of "sex in the city" and a bit of "reservoir dogs". either way, heads were turning...

bachelorette weekend #1

this past weekend marked bachelorette weekend number one in dana point. we stayed at the gorgeous st. regis resort on the cliffs overlooking the ocean. i do believe it was the nicest hotel i've ever been in. BY FAR. from the turn down service with chocolates on the pillow, to the cabana boys "prepping" our lounge chairs, to the concierge making us dinner reservations and then printing out detailed instructions how to get there, with the doorbells at every hotel room door, and the private balcony with a view of the ocean...it was a good weekend. there's nothing better than great wine, delicious dinner, pool time, cocktails, and a perfect brunch buffet. i loved it. and i didn't even mind the ridiculous OC snobs. well, not much anyways.
