oh no he didn't!!

this weekend was filled with magical moments. yes, the steelers won the superbowl and that was very exciting. but more so for john and all of his PA friends. though i was very happy for them. but friday and saturday were good times for a couple of reasons.

first, on friday i got a thai massage. you have to understand that my muscles are always tight and my upper back always aches and, to add to the usuals, i also had hurt my hamstring. so i hadn't had a massage in a while so i decided to indulge. but only half indulge because a thai massage is half the price of a "real" massage at the spa. if you've never had a thai massage, let me tell you that it is not for the faint of heart. you go into a tiny room that basically only fits a massage table. they give you little gym shorts to put on and you lay on a table. then a little 90 pound woman comes in and climbs up on the table and proceeds to walk all over you. she doesn't fall because she's hanging on to a pole that runs across the top of the room. amazing. totally painful but amazing. when they dig their heels into your back and shove their elbows into your shoulders, you have to start concentrating on breathing to deal with the pain. but i promise it's a "good pain". my favorite part is when she stretches you and pulls your and pushes you. although, that's a lie, my favorite part is usually when they get to my shoulders and gasp at how tense i am. i had this same experience on my honeymoon where the poor woman couldn't understand that i hunched over a computer all day. the fact that the masseuse validates my shoulder tension makes me feel much better. the day after my massage i was sore but felt much better. so much better in fact....

...that i was in the mood to see "something new". if you're not familiar with this movie it's a little romantic comedy aimed at young urban professional black women and yes that is basically me. in a way. okay, not every way but some. stacey and i went to see this gem and let me tell you, it was well worth the $10.50. not only was the movie good (truly...well made and entertaining), but the audience was perfect. don't judge me but i WISH white audiences were as fun as black audiences. it's theater experiences like this one that make me love going to the movies. the fact that you're watching a movie WITH people and experiencing the same emotions and sharing those emotions. people were not shy about audibly expressing their feelings ("yeah, you grab her ass!", clapping when she got the big promotion, oohing and aahing at blair underwood). makes me remember why i'd rather see a movie in the theater than on dvd in my own living room.
