reminding me of my dance moves...

The Superbowl was pretty mediocre on the whole. The game was dulled by the rain which made everyone play pretty poorly. It wasn't a blowout but it certainly didn't seem very intense. Prince ruled the house as usual but that wasn't enough to make up for sitting in front of the tv for 4 hours. And, for the most part, the commercials weren't very memorable. But for some reason, I seemed to get a lot of entertainment out of this car commercial. (Unlike everyone else in the room.) How can you not get excited about that song is playing?!!

jerry o'connell hangover

last night i had too much to drink. sports bars have been bringing that out in me lately. and with $3 happy hour drinks (instead of $6!) the deal was too good to pass up. of course the alcohol totally exaggerated my reaction to my celeb sighting of this guy. sadly, i have had a crush on him for a long time and have gotten a lot of shit for it for a long time. i guess it's my weakness for big frat boys who just look like they like to kick back with some brews and watch sports. well, guess what? he DOES like to do that. awesome. and he looked totally slimmed down and sans the alcoholic bloat. of course, while he was only three feet from me, i made it clear to my table that i thought he was hot and had a crush on him. this being the table that included my husband. the man that i love. and the man that i would never leave for little ol' jerry oc.

oh no he didn't!!

this weekend was filled with magical moments. yes, the steelers won the superbowl and that was very exciting. but more so for john and all of his PA friends. though i was very happy for them. but friday and saturday were good times for a couple of reasons.

first, on friday i got a thai massage. you have to understand that my muscles are always tight and my upper back always aches and, to add to the usuals, i also had hurt my hamstring. so i hadn't had a massage in a while so i decided to indulge. but only half indulge because a thai massage is half the price of a "real" massage at the spa. if you've never had a thai massage, let me tell you that it is not for the faint of heart. you go into a tiny room that basically only fits a massage table. they give you little gym shorts to put on and you lay on a table. then a little 90 pound woman comes in and climbs up on the table and proceeds to walk all over you. she doesn't fall because she's hanging on to a pole that runs across the top of the room. amazing. totally painful but amazing. when they dig their heels into your back and shove their elbows into your shoulders, you have to start concentrating on breathing to deal with the pain. but i promise it's a "good pain". my favorite part is when she stretches you and pulls your and pushes you. although, that's a lie, my favorite part is usually when they get to my shoulders and gasp at how tense i am. i had this same experience on my honeymoon where the poor woman couldn't understand that i hunched over a computer all day. the fact that the masseuse validates my shoulder tension makes me feel much better. the day after my massage i was sore but felt much better. so much better in fact....

...that i was in the mood to see "something new". if you're not familiar with this movie it's a little romantic comedy aimed at young urban professional black women and yes that is basically me. in a way. okay, not every way but some. stacey and i went to see this gem and let me tell you, it was well worth the $10.50. not only was the movie good (truly...well made and entertaining), but the audience was perfect. don't judge me but i WISH white audiences were as fun as black audiences. it's theater experiences like this one that make me love going to the movies. the fact that you're watching a movie WITH people and experiencing the same emotions and sharing those emotions. people were not shy about audibly expressing their feelings ("yeah, you grab her ass!", clapping when she got the big promotion, oohing and aahing at blair underwood). makes me remember why i'd rather see a movie in the theater than on dvd in my own living room.

bloody sunday

okay, maybe it wasn't bloody, but it sure as hell was dark. the eagles lost and egan and john didn't take it well. didn't take it horribly, but didn't take it well. i woke up this morning thinking how odd it was that there would be no football for a while. no sundays at the bar or at the house watching hours and hours of games. of course, then i realized that the time flies and there will be basketball (fortunately and unfortunately) to occupy all of the tivo space. and then it REALLY hit me. by the time the next football season rolls around, i'll be a married woman. sports seasons really put it all in perspective, don't they?

wedding/football weekend

well, that may be misleading. mostly it was a football weekend. i do love football but i may pay more attention to the actual outcomes so i can gauge how my roommate/fiance will act for the remainder of the day. the eagles win in the morning was glorious but the steelers loss in the afternoon sure ruined his party. oh well.

the wedding portion of the weekend was supposed to occur while my friend katie was in town. she wanted to be a part of the planning though i truly didn't have anything to give her to do. in fact, i think the majority of our wedding talk was done over apple schnapps and other alcoholic beverages and consisted mainly of screaming at people why i hate assigned seating. then some people arguing that you HAVE to have assigned people or there will be "chaos". uh huh. though others argued that no assignments left the door open for "more flirting and maybe random hookups." i'm all for that.

so, in my boredom and to make up for my lack of planning, i decided to take a quiz to see what kind of bride i am. sure, i could have used the minutes to actual do some planning or get the things done that apparently i should have done months ago, but this was more fun.

Congratulations! You are a traditional bride!
You have been dreaming of this day since you were five years old. You want the big white dress, the bouquet of roses and daddy walking you down the aisle. You could be the poster girl for all things wedding!

san diego SUPER chargers

yeah, that's right. i'm talking about football. i'm talking about the AFC West championship San Diego Chargers. sure, i'm not always this gung-ho about the chargers. but hell, people like winners and it's a lot easier to follow a team once they're playing well. let's hope they keep playing as well as they have been.

a picture i snapped of my tv a few weeks after they managed an exciting win over the broncos....

march madness

a quick shout-out to my wonderful alma mater Stanford. in a sign of complete ignorance to stanford's history in the tournament, my team was given a number 1 seed in the upcoming ncaa basketball tournament. this year (i suppose like other years), i'm hoping for the best but preparing for the worst. stanford seems to have a troubling knack for losing early in the tournament, no matter how good they are. but i would like to take this opportunity to suggest that if stanford does have to play john's syracuse team, i would like our mutual friends to please get us both good and drunk and make us play nice during the game.

and off to barney's we go!

50 hours and counting...

until the greatest weekend of all time. okay, maybe not the greatest but certainly a better one than usual.

the weekend will kick off tonight with my friends from work as we enjoy a luxury suite at the clippers/knicks game.

tomorrow's festivities include a day of shopping at the camarillo outlets followed by the best dinner anyone's ever eaten at chad's in santa barbara. stacey will be my accomplice on this very wonderful saturday and she will help me pick out new shoes and help me ask the waiter for more muffins at chad's.

sunday starts with the clippers/pistons game with john and some really great seats courtesy of my parents. then the climax of the weekend as joan rivers kicks off the academy awards. ugly dresses, ridiculous comments, chips and salsa, and some homemade artichoke dip. oh, and some awards will be given out.

aren't you jealous? (note to boys: you probably are not jealous but you should be)
